An Analysis on the Quality of Hand-Washing and Practice Related to Eye Health Care of Adults

Abstract
Purpose: The survey on hand-washing hygiene and eye care practices by adults was conducted to find out if eye health care was practised properly.

Methods: A survey of 349 adults analyzed general characteristics, reality of eye health care, and eye care practices.

Results: The number of responder who did not take nutrition pills for eye health was more than responder who did take nutrition pills, and more responder did not have regular eye exams. The eye disease was the high number of reason for visiting to eye clinic. More people were using hand sanitizers, hand-washing five times a day was the most number, and also hand-washing time on average was the most between 5 and 9 seconds. From the characteristics of eye health care, the each case of respondent (p=0.00) who take nutritional supplements for eye health, who exam regularly check-up (p=0.00), and who visit to eye clinic because of eye disease and eye exam (p=0.01) were shown with high degree of action for eye health care. And also, respondent who used hand sanitizers and respondent with long hand washing times were shown with highly likely to eye care practice (p=0.02, p=0.01).

Conclusions: According to the this study, hand-washing was the most as eye care practice, and generally people did not use sunglasses when going out. As for hand washing and hygiene, it shows an above normal level of practice, but the degree of exercise for eye health appeared to be low. From this analysis, a study on how to raise public awareness that eye health is also necessary as wash-hand hygiene is important.
